Our Hunts

What is a Hunt Transporter?

A hunt transporter provides transportation, lodging, and access to hunting areas but does not guide the hunt. We move hunters by boat and skiff to shoreline access points, offer a safe and comfortable place to stay, and support you throughout the week – while you plan and conduct your hunt independently.

See our Hunt Transporter Page for more info…

Are your hunts guided?

No. All hunts are self-guided (DIY). We operate strictly as a licensed Alaska Hunt Transporter, providing lodging and transportation only. All hunting decisions, field activities, and meat care are the responsibility of each hunter.

See our Hunt Transporter Page for more info…

What species can I hunt during my trip?

Our transporter service supports Sitka black-tailed deer and mountain goat hunts on Kodiak Island, in accordance with Alaska regulations and seasonal availability.

How many hunters are in each group?

Groups are limited to six hunters or fewer, allowing for better access to hunting areas and a more comfortable experience aboard the F/V Valiant.

How much does a Kodiak Island hunt cost?

Pricing varies depending on timing, availability, and trip details. For current rates and availability, please contact Captain Chad directly at (907) 252-4803 or use the contact form.

Hunt Location & Travel

Where do your hunts take place on Kodiak Island?

Our hunts focus on the remote South End of Kodiak Island, an area known for rugged terrain and strong populations of Sitka black-tailed deer and mountain goats.

What kind of terrain should I expect?

Terrain varies by species. Deer hunts range from moderate hillsides to steep ridges with thick brush, while mountain goat hunts involve long climbs and exposed, rugged terrain.

How do I get to Kodiak Island?

Most hunters fly into Kodiak Benny Benson State Airport (ADQ) via Anchorage. Alaska Airlines offers daily flights between Anchorage and Kodiak.

What should I expect from Kodiak’s weather?

Kodiak weather is unpredictable and can change quickly. Wind, rain, fog, cold temperatures, and wet terrain are common. Proper gear and layered clothing are essential.

How will we get to the F/V Valiant?

We coordinate floatplane transfers between Kodiak City and the F/V Valiant. During the hunt week, hunters are transported daily by skiff from the vessel to shoreline access points.

How physically demanding are the hunts?

These hunts require sustained effort over full days in the field. Hunters should be prepared for long hours hiking, glassing, and carrying gear in changing weather and rugged conditions. A good level of physical fitness and endurance will greatly improve both safety and enjoyment.

Gear, Licenses & Hunter Responsibilities

What arrangements am I responsible for?

Hunters are responsible for booking their own travel to Kodiak City, purchasing licenses and tags, and bringing all personal hunting gear and clothing. We coordinate floatplane transfers to and from the vessel.

What licenses and tags are required for deer hunting on Kodiak Island?

Hunters must have a valid Alaska hunting license and deer harvest tags for GMU 8. Bag limits vary by residency status and current Alaska Department of Fish and Game regulations.

Your week includes private heated staterooms, home-cooked meals, daily skiff transportation, floatplane transfers between Kodiak City and the vessel, and reliable onboard communication.
